On September 26, SEVENTEEN's Jeonghan officially began his military service, becoming the first member of the group to enlist. As the eldest member, born in 1995, Jeonghan has entered the training camp where he will undergo basic military training before starting his alternative service as a social worker.
Pledis Entertainment, SEVENTEEN's agency, confirmed the news and requested fans to respect Jeonghan's privacy during this period. The agency stated, "There will be no separate official event on the day of his enlistment or at the training camp. We kindly ask fans to refrain from visiting the alternative service location."
With Jeonghan's enlistment, SEVENTEEN is entering a period of military service. The group will soon see other members enlisting, although it is unclear who will follow next. Members S.Coups and Joshua will not be required to serve. S.Coups was exempted due to a knee injury and surgery, while Joshua, a Korean-American, is not obligated to enlist.
Jeonghan’s enlistment comes at a significant time for SEVENTEEN. The group is preparing for their highly anticipated comeback with their 12th mini-album, SPILL THE FEELS, set to be released on October 14. The group will also embark on their RIGHT HERE world tour, starting with a concert at the Goyang Stadium on October 12 and 13. Unfortunately, Jeonghan will not be able to participate in these activities, but Pledis reassured fans that pre-recorded content will allow Jeonghan to remain in touch with CARATs (SEVENTEEN’s fanbase) throughout his service.
Another group member, Jun, will also be absent from promotional activities due to his acting commitments in China. While Jun plans to participate in as many group activities as possible, the overlapping schedules make it difficult for him to promote alongside the rest of the group during this period.
With Jeonghan’s enlistment signaling the start of SEVENTEEN’s military hiatus, fans have been pouring in their support on platforms like Weverse, sending their encouragement to the group and to Jeonghan as he embarks on his service.
