On December 17, YG Entertainment released a statement, saying, "It is difficult to provide details regarding the artist's service. However, the treatments Song Mino received were a continuation of those he was undergoing prior to his enlistment. Additionally, all leaves and absences were used in accordance with regulations."
The statement was issued in response to a report by Dispatch, which alleged that Song Mino had not been properly attending his post as a public service worker at a Mapo resident welfare facility. Dispatch raised suspicions of negligence, citing frequent medical leaves and annual vacation days as key issues.
Song Mino originally served at the Mapo Facility Management Corporation but was later transferred to a resident welfare facility under the direction of his supervisor, Mr. L, in March of this year.
Dispatch further claimed that Song Mino's attendance records were signed all at once, implying collusion between him and his supervisor to falsify records. Allegations also emerged that Song Mino took a five-night, six-day trip to Hawaii on October 30, which fueled the public’s doubts. Furthermore, reports stated that Song Mino only visited his assigned workplace for five days in November (11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th) but was not present on-site.
When questioned, Mr. L defended Song Mino, stating that his absences were due to "medical leave, annual leave, and hospitalization." He added, "Sometimes, he rests in between or takes leave for personal reasons like hospital visits. We try to keep him out of public view because fans come looking for him. Song Mino is also experiencing physical and mental challenges."
Song Mino began his alternative service in March 2023 and is set to complete his duties on December 23, 2024. As the controversy grows, the impending end of his service period adds to the public scrutiny.
Fans and the general public remain divided over the issue, with some expressing concern for Song Mino’s health and others questioning the fairness of his service conduct. YG Entertainment's clarification has yet to quell the heated debate.
